Short answers to the questions homeowners in Brockton and nearby towns ask most. For more detail, follow the links to the full guides.
Is this a garage door company?
No. Brockton Garage Door is a referral line and information site. When you call, we'll try to connect you with an independent local garage door company. Those companies do the work and set their own terms. We may be paid for referrals.
Do I have to hire anyone if I call?
No. Calling doesn't commit you to anything. Any work is agreed directly between you and the garage door company.
What are the signs of a broken garage door spring?
A loud bang from the garage, a door that suddenly feels very heavy, an opener that lifts the door a few inches and stops, or a visible gap in the spring above the door. See the spring repair guide.
Can I open my garage door by hand if a spring broke?
Please don't. Without the spring, the full weight of the door is on you and the cables. Leave it closed, unplug the opener, and call.
Why does my garage door reverse before it hits the floor?
Usually the safety sensors near the floor are blocked, dirty or out of line. In cold weather, a stiff door or ice under the seal can also make the opener reverse.
My garage door is frozen shut. What do I do?
Stop pressing the button, unplug the opener, and free the bottom seal with a plastic scraper or a hair dryer on low. Don't use metal tools. See the winter guide.
How long do garage door springs last?
Standard springs are commonly rated around 10,000 cycles, roughly six or seven years for a household that uses the door four or five times a day.
Should I repair or replace my garage door opener?
Repair often makes sense for a single failed part on a solid opener with safety sensors. Replacement is usually better for openers with no safety sensors, old fixed-code remotes, or a failing motor.
What should I ask a garage door company before they come out?
Their business name, whether they're registered as a Massachusetts Home Improvement Contractor, proof of insurance, what parts they'll bring, and what warranty comes with the work. Our before-you-call guide has the full list.
How do I check a contractor's registration in Massachusetts?
Ask for their Home Improvement Contractor registration number and look it up on the state's HIC lookup.
Do you handle commercial doors?
Yes. Calls about rolling steel, commercial sectional and loading dock doors are routed to companies that work on them. See commercial doors.
I rent. Can I call about my garage door?
Yes, but check with the owner first. Many leases make the owner responsible for the garage door, and a technician will usually need the owner's OK.
What if no company is available when I call?
Availability depends on which local companies are taking calls at that time. If no one is available, try again a little later.
Does this site collect my information?
The site has no forms. The phone system records the calling number and call details so the call can be routed. See our privacy policy.
